Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a 1998 film by Aditya Chopra. Together with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, it was at the forefront of a new wave of Bollywood blockbusters, based on an urban culture and lifestyle. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in pivotal roles. The film was a hit at the Indian box office, making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time. It is also one of the highest-grossing Indian films abroad, with more than 100 crore (100 million) in overseas net sales. Film critics gave generally positive reviews for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. "The Hindu" praises it for being entertaining and capturing youth's angst well. However, some critics note that its execution sacrificed plot for light comedy. The film has been remade into a film in Tamil as "Yennai Arindhaal" (2007). In 2016, a Malayalam remake of the film was made titled as "Puthiya Niyamam". It became the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time. A Telugu dubbed version of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was released on 16 August 2008 titled as "Billa 2" and was a huge hit.
